after 30 years and over 20,000 riders
Callum Park is a family run business stretching back to 1984.
Born on a humble 4 acre field in Lower Halstow, we specialised then mainly in full livery but taught a few people to ride on Saturday mornings. There were very few stables then compared to today and you certainly never saw the queues of ladies in pink and blue jodphurs now commonplace at today's supermarket checkouts. It is so amazing that some of those original riders still ride with us today, as do their children and even now their Grandchildren !
By 1991 we had relocated the Riding School to 'Little Callum Farm' on the other side of the village. It seemed like such a huge place with it's 65 acres of Wheat fields but we set about building and developing the purpose built facility that we all now enjoy today. A defining moment came in 1995 with the construction of the Indoor complex, which meant that we could operate in all weathers and provide our customers with a facility more in keeping with their growing expectations.
As well as building we developed our 'Fleet' of Horses and Ponies. Over the last 30 years we have been proud owners to over 200 of these wonderful characters and have carefully selected, Schooled and produced two very special herds which today, underpin our very success. See our Horse & Pony Herds.
From the outset we were determined to make Horse Riding as popular and accessible as the many other sports and to dispel the myth that only the fortunate and the privileged could participate. We invented a whole series of lesson plans and progression routes all designed to make Riding Fun, Enjoyable and Safe and we were always mindful that people wanted to progress and Learn, as well as have Fun. We developed and implemented the First ever computerised bookings and Gradings system for a Riding school called, 'Schoolmaster'. This Software keeps track of all of our Riders, Horses, Instructors and Arenas as well as our riders lessons and progression. If you wanted to know which horse you rode, in what arena and with what Instructor in June 1996 - we'd be able to tell you !
Children with Special Needs are particularly dear to us and we have developed an enviable reputation and a series of programs designed to engage and support children within the Autistic spectrum. Horse Riding is one of the most Therapeutic activities to engage and stimulate these Marvelous people as we explain in our Schools section.
Over the years we have trained many of today's young Riding Instructors and are particularly proud to have created The Kent Equine Academy. This was the most successful independent Equine educational facility that Kent had ever seen and at its peak had over 50 students enrolled.
So, after over 30 Years of providing riding tuition and eductaion we look back at it all now with a sense of pride and satisfaction when we realise that -
